7. How are concepts represented?

7c_conquest

Conquests

One indication of conquest is a sword thrust into a mountain or a Spaniard piercing a lance through a place glyph. TheLienzo also follows the Nahua tradition of placing victorious warriors in a higher position than those who have been conquered.

7c_authority

Authority

A man seated on a Spanish scissor chair (often in front of a house) may be interpreted as a symbol of local authority on behalf of the Spanish.

7c_rebelion

Rebellion

Images of barricades may be interpreted as acts of insurgency. Rebellious groups built these walls to make clear their intention of breaking ties, resisting aggression into a particular territory, or even the start of war.
