9. What are the war emblems used by each army?
Quauhquecholteca Mesoamericans used animal symbols as emblems of war. They could represent the lineage or noble house to which a warrior belonged, or a prestigious military order. In the Lienzo de Quauhquechollan, the Quauhquecholteca war emblems we see are the eagle, the jaguar, and the ocelot. Military costumes were called tlahuiztli in Nahuatl. |
Spanish The symbol of the Spanish army was a two-pointed red flag tied to a staff with a cross on the top. This standard also appears on Spanish paintings depicting the conquest and other indigenous pictograms.
